Are you a new freelancer starting out trying to figure out how in the world you’re supposed to find new clients? Dan & Jessica received an email from listener “Rachel M” asking about this very topic. In today’s episode we discuss different ways we drummed up new business when we started out, what worked and what didn’t.
Here’s the email we received from Rachel:
“I want to thank you guys for making a show that is both entertaining and that gives great information.Your experiences seem to give you both great perspective on topics. I would love to hear your opinions on how to acquire clients and freelance work for those of us who are just starting out. I know there are tons of websites saying they help freelancers find clients (like glance, Odesk, and thumbtack) and I’ve heard lots of mixed opinions. I’ve been working in field for a few years, and have plenty of formal education in design, but I really would love to transition into freelancing full time. In 2015 I want to be proactive in searching out freelance work so eventually I can work solely for myself. I’m not sure where to start. I’ve had a few clients for small projects referred to me from a past professor, but not nearly enough to replace my full time job (working in production art for a screen printing company).
Thanks so much for continuing to put out great content!” — Rachel M
